The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) show statistics that every 11 people that have died out of every 200,000 who die this is because of asbestos. Comparing to a national average of five out of every 200,000.

In years 2006 to 2010 there was 67 deaths in Portsmouth due to mesothelioma, this is a type of cancer of the lung wall caused by asbestos this cancer is terminal.

Over the next five years more and more people will get mesothelioma due to asbestos, campaigners say this will increase. They want the government to pay those effected a lot of money for there illness. Some people could put a industrial injury disease claim in for this.

The president of Association of Personal Injury Lawyers Mr David Bott has said that more people are dying in Portsmouth of mesothelioma, per head of the population than most other parts of the country. The number of men that are dying because of this disease are set to increase over the next five years.

Mr Bott said hundreds of people are suffering all over the UK from asbestos, but what people don’t understand is that they can’t ge the compensation that they need to help them living with this disease and through the last days of their lives.

The government should fund some type of funding for these people, this would act as a safety net for all the injured workers.
