People who are exposed to asbestos at their workplaces for a long period of time on a regular basis often suffer from life-changing and fatal disease. Plumbers and factory workers often fall prey to these ailments. Considering their indisputable sufferings, the Ministry of Justice had placed the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2010-12 for approval wherein it is mentioned that the asbestos-related diseases should now be covered under pro bono services offered by the UK personal injury solicitors. Fortunately the bill got the Royal Assent which means that these victims can claim compensation with the help of no win no fee solicitors.

The new bill will prevent solicitors asking for ‘Success Fees’ from their clients. The compensation claimants need to pay only a certain percentage of the total compensatory amount they receive (and that too not more than 25% of the total pay-out). Mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases affected persons would now be able to claim compensation for their industry-related diseases at ease and won’t have to pay hefty amounts to their solicitors.

‘No win no fee solicitors’ are well-known across the UK for the free legal services they offer for the workplace accident victims. These solicitors never claim money for the legal services that they offer before their clients win the cases. However, they ask for a Success Fee once their client gets awarded with comprehensive benefits. With the new rule being imposed, people who are suffering from asbestos-related diseases will be exempted from the Success Fees they charge. They will just need to give a share of the compensatory benefits to their solicitors.

The ‘no win no fee’ lawyers offer their services for a wide range of accidents. They provide their pro bono legal services for bi-cycle accidents, slip or trip accidents, concertina accidents and rear end shunts. The UK government’s aim is to mitigate the pain and sufferings of the workers who have fallen sick due to long exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma patients would be exempt from the changes.
